Ticket prices plummet for Chiefs-Dolphins amid dangerous weather

Fans willing to brave what could be historically-low temperatures can find great value for the Chiefs-Dolphins wild-card round game Saturday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

Tickets for the game were as low as $33 on StubHub Saturday morning.

Even some of the best seats were going in the $100s, far below normal for a playoff game — especially one featuring the defending Super Bowl champions in the Chiefs.

Temperatures are expected to reach as low as -10 degrees with wind chills between -23 and -30.

Heavy 14-18 mph winds are expected, which could reach as high as 29 mph.

The temperatures could bring the game close to the 1967 Ice Bowl between the Packers and Cowboys in Green Bay, which hit minus-13 degrees and minus-48 wind chill.

The National Weather Service declared the weather to be “dangerously cold,” with the threat of frostbite and hypothermia.

It’s set to be the coldest game the Dolphins have ever played.

If they had beaten the Bills in Week 18, the Dolphins would have hosted a playoff game in Sunny Miami.

Instead, they are forced to travel to Kansas City and face life-threatening-cold conditions.

“If we’re playing in any playoff game that isn’t at home it probably will be cold,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier in the week. “It will be the same for both teams. For us and for the individuals in the locker room, I know they will not use that as an excuse.”

The Chiefs struggled in the second half of the year, losing five of their last 10 games and looking far from the reigning champions.

But they always seem to elevate in the biggest games.

“We play a lot of big games — games on short rest, night games — and having that experience will help,” Mahomes said recently. “A lot of guys on this team have done that, so the step up you see going into the playoffs, we make it a little smaller, because we’ve been in games like this. We can rely on our experience and be the best team we can be.”
