Tony Romo ‘didn’t realize’ Steelers had two running backs

Tony Romo made several bizarre comments during Monday’s CBS broadcast of the Bills-Steelers game, but one of the more odd things that the former quarterback said was his surprise over the Pittsburgh running back tandem of Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

Romo appeared to be astonished by the ability of both Harris and Warren to be threats on the ground, only discovering what Warren could really do during the course of the wild card matchup in Buffalo.

“I’m telling you, when you put the tape on… We know how good Harris has been playing, but I didn’t realize they had this 1-2 punch,” Romo said. “We hadn’t seen them this year during a game, but  [Warren] consistently hits the hole. Quick, aggressive, has those instincts. This is an outstanding unit.”

It seemed like an odd time for Romo to find out how effective the Steelers’ run game was, considering Warren has been a threat all season and added an element to Pittsburgh’s passing game.

Warren had the third most receiving yards for the Steelers during the regular season with 370 yards on 61 receptions, while he also had 784 rushing yards on 149 carries.

In the playoffs, Warren had 38 yards on eight carries in the loss to the Bills, while Harris had 37 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Romo’s surprise over the Steelers’ run game wasn’t the only comment that caught viewers’ attention during the telecast, though.

Viewers poked fun at Romo over an awkward comment in which he tried to discuss Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but the sentence that came out sounded odd.

“What a day, Martin Luther King Jr. deserves to have a day named after him,” Romo said.

Football fans also noted when Romo apparently jumped up and down after what looked like a potential Bills interception in the first quarter with Buffalo already leading 14-0.
