Toyota Ad Accidentally Features Unofficial 2025 Camry Rendering (Updated)

Update: Toyota reached out to Carscoops and confirmed our report that the 2025 Camry rendering in the ad is an independent creation. They explained that an external vendor mistakenly used an artist’s conceptual Camry illustration as a placeholder during production. Toyota’s statement reads as follows:

“The referenced video was created by one of Toyota Financial Service’s vendors that mistakenly used an artist’s conceptual rendering of a Camry that was a meant as a placeholder during the production process. The vendor has no access to Toyota planned vehicle design images and the image is not a preview of a future Camry. Toyota Financial Services is removing the image from the video.”

For years now, renderings have been a prominent fixture on the internet, attempting to provide a glimpse of what a refreshed or next-generation model might resemble. Despite most automakers maintaining a cautious distance from the myriad independent digital artists, one of Toyota USA’s partners made an unconventional choice by featuring a speculative illustration crafted by Theottle in the company’s latest official spot.

The rendering in question showcases a speculative 2025 Toyota Camry, featuring styling cues inspired by the Crown, which was originally created by Theottle in August 2022. Surprisingly, one year later, the same image made an appearance in a Toyota USA advertisement that focuses on the benefits of buying versus leasing. Although the ad isn’t related to the current or upcoming Camry models, it utilizes scale models, press images, and the aforementioned rendering as visual references.

The illustration can be seen on the cover of a fictitious magazine called “The Amazing Toyota” at the 0.49-minute mark in the video above, presented in a comic-style effect. Some viewers speculated that this might be a teaser for a future Camry, but it’s evident that this is not the case.

Interestingly, the YouTube clip doesn’t credit the creator of the rendering, leading us to believe that this was likely an unintentional oversight, possibly by the agency responsible for the project. While this might boost Theottle’s confidence in the realism of his work, it could also lead to a somewhat awkward situation for Toyota officials when they come across this ad.

We reached out to Theottle, also known as Theophilus Chin to older readers, whose work has been featured on CarScoops and other automotive media outlets worldwide. He told us that neither Toyota nor their representatives contacted him before or after the video became public. It will be interesting to see if there are any resemblances between the illustrated rendering and the anticipated 2025 Toyota Camry, slated for a debut in 2024.
