NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell gave his stamp of approval to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, whose whirlwind romance has converted Swifties into football fans.
Goodell spoke highly of the Chiefs tight end and the 12-time Grammy winner during a recent appearance on “CBS Mornings,” where he explained why their relationship is “great” for the league.
“Listen, they’re happy,” Goodell said, smiling. “They seem to be enjoying their relationship. That’s great in and of itself.
“But it has connected more fans of Taylor’s and more fans of the NFL in some ways. To see that they have a connection, now they have a connection to our game and to Taylor.”
Goodell went on to say Swift is an “unbelievable artist” and “obviously Travis is an unbelievable player.”
“I think it’s great for the league to have that kind of attention. So we welcome it.”
Ratings and revenue overall are up for the NFL, according to CBS Mornings.
Swift’s NFL takeover has been beneficial in a number of ways.
The league has welcomed a new group of fans as Swifties continue to show interest in the NFL, even if it’s just for Chiefs games.
First linked in September, Swift sent social media spiraling that very same month when she attended a Chiefs-Bears game at Arrowhead Stadium and sat in a private suite with Kelce’s mom, Donna.
The Chiefs blew out the Bears, 41-10, and had the largest viewership of Week 3’s slate of games, drawing 24.3 million average viewers, according to Front Office Sports.
After the game, Fanatics saw a 400 percent spike in Kelce jersey sales, a spokesperson for the NFL’s official e-commerce partner, Fanatics, shared in a statement to CNN.
Kelce, 34, also saw his social media following increase since he and Swift, 33, made their romance public.
Last month, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Kelce gained 1.1 million Instagram followers after the Chiefs-Bears game.
Additionally, the Chiefs’ Instagram account gained over 180,000 followers in that same period.
Kelce and his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, previously said they noticed an increase in subscribers to their “New Heights” podcast amid the Swift craze.
Swift has attended four Chiefs games this season in between her “Eras Tour,” which is currently in Brazil.
Kelce visited the “Cruel Summer” singer during the Chiefs’ bye week, when she performed in Argentina on Nov. 11.
The couple is reportedly planning to spend the holidays together with their families.
Kelce and Swift stepped out publicly in October when they were seen holding hands in New York City.
