Where’s the beef?
Apparently, when it comes to the perceived beef between Tyreek Hill and Eli Apple, the former thinks people read too much into their social media interactions.
Still, it was enough for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to reach out to Hill to make sure he was alright with them signing Apple a little more than a week ago.
The two have a history of calling each other out on Twitter and during press conferences.
“Well, when I heard about it, coach had called me,” Hill said, according to NFL.com. “He was like, ‘Hey, Reek, we finna sign somebody.’ I was like, ‘Who y’all finna sign?’ He was like, ‘We finna sign Eli Apple.’
I was like, ‘Aight, cool.’ He was like, ‘You ain’t got a problem with that?’ I was like, ‘Nah, I ain’t got no problem with that. Why would I have a problem with that?’”
The two have gotten along well since Apple joined the Dolphins, with Hill serving as a de facto welcome wagon helping to get the corner adjusted to his new team.
Hill helped show Apple around when he first arrived and introduced him to some of the coaches that he hadn’t met yet.
“So I just feel like a lot of people, it just get fed into what’s going on in social media, and that’s not really what it is,” Hill said. “I was fired up for us to be able to add another competitor to this team because that makes us better in the long run, having that cornerback depth.
“Eli, he’s a great guy. I know we had some battles, but at the end of the day, man, we’re all trying to win. We’re all trying to get better.”
Even with the social media beef seemingly squashed and Hill and Apple now friends, that doesn’t mean the trash-talking will stop.
Both players have expressed excitement about going up against one another in practice and how it will only make them better when they’re on the field during a real game.
It also allows for something else.
“And now, my looking from it is now I get to embarrass him every day,” Hill joked.
