Uniform Civil Code will remove inequalities in Indian Society: SC Advocate Manubarwala

VIJAYAWADA: Senior Supreme Court advocate Aditya Bharat Manubarwala strongly advocated in favour of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) proposed by the Centre. He said that it will bring equality to women’s rights and also add strength to secularism. Manubharwala attended a convention at KL University here on Monday. He spoke at length on various constitutional matters including UCC. He said that UCC has been drafted on the lines of the existing uniform criminal procedure code.

Aditya Bharat Manubarwala, senior advocate representing the union government in the Supreme Court, said that India is home to many religions, different customs, traditions and differences. “The common criminal code is already in force in the country and those who commit crimes are punished regardless of religion and social factors.
The proposed Uniform Civil Code will bring the same law regardless of religion and social aspects in matters such as property transfer and adoption,” said Manubarwala. He said that the different personal laws were currently in force in India, which were not giving equal rights to the women. He said that removing all of them and bringing only one law in their place will come under the common civil code. He said that the common civil memory was mentioned and the people of the country asked the government to make an effort for the common civil memory.

Later he discussed with the faculty of KL Law College about the future plans of law students about the respective laws. KL University vice chancellor Dr. G. Parthasaradhi Varma, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. AVS Prasad, Professor Siddique, Dr. N. Venkat Ram, Registrar Dr. K. Subbarao, law department head Vijaya Sudha, professors Dr.Shailaja, Kamasai and others attended the meeting.
