During the ongoing UP Board high school and intermediate board examinations, a substantial number totaling nearly 1.33 lakh students were observed to have abstained from participating in the High School Mathematics examination held on Tuesday.
According to a report by TNN, Dibyakant Shukla, the Secretary of the UP Board, stated that out of the total 21,26,179 students registered for the first shift of the Class 10 exam, 1,33,945 were absent.In the second shift, designated for intermediate vocational section examinations, there were 12,894 absentees. Consequently, the combined number of absent candidates across both shifts amounted to 1,46,839.
The report further adds that the examination was conducted peacefully at 8269 examination centres in the first shift and at 5056 in the second shift.
“The examination was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, and we are monitoring the strong rooms of all the exam centres round-the-clock, and the students are requested not to pay attention to any rumours being circulated by unscrupulous elements on social media,” stated the secretary, as reported by TNN.
As per various media reports, a total of four candidates, comprising two boys during the high school examination and two boys during the intermediate examination, were apprehended for resorting to unfair practices. In the initial shift, first information reports were filed against a cumulative count of four proxy candidates, with two cases reported in Gonda district, one in Azamgarh, and one in Shahjahanpur.

Similarly, last year, amidst the rigorous anti-copying measures implemented by the UP Secondary Education Board during the high school and intermediate board exams, more than 1.70 lakh high school students skipped the Mathematics exam. Additionally, the number of absentees during the second shift for class 12 Commerce and Home Science, as well as class 10 Computers, exceeded 25,000.
