UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024: The Union Public Service Commission has released the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 notification today, i.e February 14, 2024. Eligible candidates can register themselves for Civil Services Prelims exam starting today, on the ‘One-Time-Registration’ platform in the official website at upsc.gov.in.
The notification released by the UPSC details the examination timings, number of vacancies, eligibility and examination pattern along with essential guidelines. Candidates can now check the detailed notification available on the website.
The notification released states that the number of vacancies this year is expected to be around 1056. The notice states, “The number of vacancies to be filled through the examination is expected to be approximately 1056 which include 40 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category, i.e. 06 Vacancies for candidates of (a) blindness and low vision; 12 Vacancies for (b) deaf and hard of hearing; 09 Vacancies for (c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; and 13 Vacancies for (e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness. The final number of vacancies may undergo change after getting firm number of vacancies from Cadre Controlling Authorities”
Last year the number of vacancies advertised by the UPSC was 1,105 vacancies. This year, the tentative vacancy outlines a slight drop in the number of posts being recruited.
The selection process is broken down into three stages: preliminary, main, and personality test. Every year, over ten lakh candidates apply for the first stage of the exam, known as the preliminary round. Last year, the exam received 13 lakh applications in the preliminary round, with slightly more than 14,600 candidates being selected for the main exam round.
The Civil Services Prelims examination 2024 is scheduled to take place on May 26, 2024. While the CSE Main exam is expected to commence on September 20, 2024 – and will go on for five days covering various papers.

The notification specifies that candidates must apply online through the website upsconline.nic.in. The applicant must first register himself or herself at the One Time Registration (OTR) platform, which is available on the Commission’s website, before proceeding to fill out the online examination application. OTR can only be registered once in a lifetime. The notice states that this can be done anytime of the year; if the candidate has already registered, he or she can proceed to fill out the online application for the examination.
