The 2024 program will provide $300,000 worth of assistance to the selected schools, delivering vital access to education and increasing self-esteem, sense of belonging and learning engagement.

The grants are to ensure all students will have the essentials to learn from day one of the school year.

The selected schools range from as far north as Kalumburu Remote Community School to as south as Albany.

Various schools within Perth’s northern suburbs were part of that list, including Warwick SHS.

Variety CEO Chris Chatterton visited 32 schools throughout the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Southwest, Kimberley, Pilbara and Midwest regions, as well as the Perth metropolitan area, in October to promote the grants.

Mr Chatterton said he was proud to be able to meet principals, teachers and students of recipient schools and hear their experiences first-hand.

“It was such a rewarding experience and one that will stay with me for a very long time,” he said.

“This grant will ensure that thousands of disadvantaged students are given the opportunity they deserve to thrive.

“With one in five WA young people living below the poverty line, education is crucial to breaking the cycle of disadvantage and this is a small but really important step forward.”
