The Danish royal family has celebrated Prince Christian’s 18th birthday in style, with a gala dinner hosted by Denmark’s Queen Margrethe.
Australian-born Princess Mary’s son delivered his first official speech before dancing the night away with fellow royals from around the world, and esteemed guests.

Christian’s birthday kicked off with a balcony celebration at the palace Amalienborg, a tradition in the Danish royal house.
The young prince was all smiles as he greeted crowds alongside Queen Margrethe, his parents Mary and Prince Frederik and siblings Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, 12.
In a touching moment, when Christian was out on the balcony solo, his parents re-joined him, with Mary proudly wrapping an arm around her son as they greeted the crowds.
The moment “brought a tear to the eye” of several viewers.
“Can we also talk about how proud Frederik and Mary, and Queen Margrethe?” one commenter said after the moment was posted to the Instagram of the royal family.
“Happy birthday to Christian! I love the way Mary comes out and puts her arm around his waist. I’m sure she’s so proud of him!” a second said.

“Completely crying over the pride our dear Queen loves to show ❤️,” another wrote.
The family was later seen arriving at Christian’s gala in the evening.
Dressed in his official attire, Christian was accompanied by Mary, who stunned in a navy dress and tiara.
Rarely seen dressed to the nines, Christian’s siblings Isabella, Vincent and Josephine all looked dapper they made their entrance as a family.
The video shared by the palace to social media declared that “the 18th birthday party has begun” with the clips playing to Dua Lipa’s hit Dance the Night.
During the evening, Christian gave his first official speech, which was widely praised.
“Thank you to all the young people who are here today. It feels really good to be surrounded by so many peers,” he told the room.
“We are not the same, but we stand in the same place in life. We have something in common. And tonight is new for all of us.
“This makes it a little easier. And I need that right now.”
Later in the speech, he said: “I must find my path, even if it leads somewhere known. I have roots in many places in the world, and I enjoy travelling. But home will always be here. ‘Cause I love my country.”
One video captured Mary’s look of pride as her son addressed the room.
“How brave it is to stand up as an 18-year-old in front of the whole of Denmark and dare to be so vulnerable, and in that way become a voice for the youth generation, where uncertainty and despair are big themes. And you can feel him,” one comment said.
“Such a great speech and he did so well even though he was nervous 👏👏❤️❤️ but who wouldn’t be nervous in a situation like that!” another said.
“A tear-jerking speech,” one commenter called it.
Among the guests were future monarchs across Europe, with Christian even posing for a photo with Princesses Estelle, Ingrid Alexandra, Catharina-Amalia and Elisabeth.
Christian was also seen speaking with both his parents, congratulating him on his speech.
A final video was shared from the palace, showing off the dance floor during the birthday party.
“The dancefloor was lit when Benjamin Hav & the Family gave a concert after the gala table 🎶 🎸,” the caption read.
“The concert was Her Majesty the Queen’s surprise to all the guests.”
The royal family and their guests were seen clapping and dancing to the music.
“Prince Christian may be (a future) king, but Vincent is The King Of The floor! 🙌❤️🔥,” one comment wrote of Mary and Frederik’s youngest son.

Meanwhile, others praised “mega cool” Queen Margrethe for such a “modern party”.
