Vinted, the European second-hand giant, is further solidifying its presence in the Scandinavian market. After establishing itself in Sweden in 2022 and in Finland and Denmark in 2023, the Lithuanian second-hand platform is acquiring Denmark’s leading second-hand marketplace, Trendsales.

The acquisition strengthens Vinted’s foothold in the Danish market, where it has been present for less than a year. In Denmark, Trendsales is among the most downloaded applications on the App Store in 2022, according to a study by the business data platform Statista, indicating its strong presence in the country. Statista also reported that the platform recorded a net income of 1 million euros in 2021 after three consecutive years of losses. Behind this merger, Vinted aims to reach a broader pool of consumers in Denmark.

“The Danish appetite for second-hand clothing continues to grow, and Trendsales has played a significant role in this development. With impressive growth and a compelling vision, Trendsales is a company that has established a strong second-hand community in Denmark, of which we are delighted to be a part. We look forward to a shared future where we will continue our journey to make second-hand the first choice in Denmark and beyond,” said Adam Jay, the current CEO of Vinted Marketplace.

The acquisition is part of Vinted’s growth strategy, which began in 2021 with the acquisition of its Dutch competitor United Wardrobe, followed by the purchase of the German luxury resale site Rebelle in 2022. Launched in 2008, the resale platform is still not profitable. It aims to become profitable by reaching a large mass of consumers, hence the multiple acquisitions and expansion into new markets.

In 2022, Vinted’s revenue stood at 370.2 million euros. With over 1,500 employees, it operates in 19 countries across Europe and America and has a total of 80 million members on its site. France is its largest market, with 23 million users.
