WA Lotto: Claremont couples’ selfless act after massive scoop

A couple from Perth’s eastern suburbs can finally put to rest an ongoing joke about not having to work after scoring a massive Saturday lotto win.

One Claremont couple has won a whopping $1.3 million after purchasing a Saturday Lotto ticket from Lotterwest Play Online.

The couple has donated some of their money to charities alongside paying off their mortgage and putting aside travelling funds.

At the start of each week, the pair would joke with each other if a lotto win would allow them to take some much-needed time off work.

“Each Monday I would jokingly ask ‘do we have to go to work?” the winner said.

“Each time the answer has been yes, until today.

“It’s amazing, It’s liberating, we work long hours so the chance to ease up is great.”

Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the organisation hopes a West Australian winner will take home Thursday’s $60 million jackpot.

“WA’s last Powerball win was in March, when a Swan Valley family discovered their incredible $40 million win after initially forgetting they had purchased a ticket in the draw,” he said.
