We love this crammed spaghetti bar with tables spilling out into the arcade, making us feel like we’re in a particularly hip Rome neighbourhood. Their guanciale carbonara has a cult following among pasta lovers, along with their famous kangaroo bolognese, of course.

The carbonara at this popular South Perth spot has a loyal following. With bacon, egg and a cream cheese sauce, it’s perhaps not one for the purists, but we have no problem mixing things up.

Just about everything at this Italian restaurant is lick-the-bottom-of-your-bowl delicious, but the tonnarelli carbonara is one of our favourites. If you’re feeling really bougie, you can add truffle paste for $5.

Now back in its original location, this port city staple offers up what we’re calling an “Aussie-style” carbonara, with pancetta, mushroom, cracked pepper, cream and parmesan. It may not be super authentic, but it’s darn delicious nonetheless.
