Waters takes provisional Supercars pole in Sydney

Supercars star Cam Waters has claimed provisional pole for the final Sydney race.

The Tickford driver clocked the fastest lap time of one minute 29.814 seconds during Sunday’s 15-minute qualifying session at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Waters took out the pole position for the opening Sydney race, before falling short of victory, and will need to replicate his red-hot form when he has a solo crack in the top-10 shootout.

PremiAir Nulon Racing’s Tim Slade was second fastest in the session, followed by Matt Stone Racing driver Nick Percat.

Chaz Mostert, who won Saturday’s race, provisionally qualified in fifth after abandoning his opening lap of the session.

The Walkinshaw Andretti United star was on track to pull off the fastest lap by 0.13 seconds before making the call to abort his shot in the final sector.

Championship leader Will Brown is a chance at salvaging his weekend after sneaking into the top 10 in seventh.

Brown’s Triple Eight teammate Broc Feeney was eliminated in 16th.
