Chennai: In his first visit to Kerala since the Lok Sabha results were declared, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said Wednesday he was facing a dilemma in having to choose between Wayanad and Raebareli constituencies, both of which he won with a margin of over 3.5 lakh votes.
Addressing a public meeting in Malappuram, Rahul said, “I have a dilemma in front of me. The question is: Will I be a parliamentarian from Wayanad or from Raebareli?”
Rahul said both Raebareli and Wayanad would be happy with his final decision.
The Congress leader, who reached the district in the afternoon, was given a warm welcome at Edavanna, which is part of the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. He also held a roadshow attended by supporters of the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
At the event, Rahul also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remark that he was not “biological” but “sent by god”. Rahul said Modi had a strange parmatma, who made him take all decisions “in favour of Ambani and Adani”.
“My god is the poor people of India. My god is the people of Wayanad. So for me, it’s very easy. I talk to people. And my god tells me what to do,” Rahul said.
The Congress leader said the Lok Sabha results showed that the people of India had defeated hatred and arrogance with love, affection and unity.
“The beautiful thing is that they (Modi and Amit Shah) had a fundamental misunderstanding. They thought that just because they had power, the ED, CBI, and Income Tax could dictate what the people should do. The people of Kerala, the people of Uttar Pradesh and people of all the states showed that the BJP can’t dictate what they should do. The people also sent the message that the Constitution is our choice… do not touch it,” Rahul added.
The MP, with a pocket edition of the Constitution in his hand, said people finally saw Modi bowing to the document, when BJP leaders before elections had said they would tear it up.
In the beginning of his speech, Rahul thanked the people of Wayanad for voting for him.
“I would like to start by thanking every single person in Wayanad for supporting me. UDF voters, LDF voters, UDF workers, leaders, everyone who took part in the election and made my victory possible. I would like to thank them with all my heart,” he said.
Rahul is also scheduled to attend a public meeting in Wayanad’s Kalpetta Wednesday.
The leader contested from Wayanad in 2019, and won it with a majority of over 4 lakh votes, but lost home turf Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. This time he fought from Raebareli after his mother Sonia Gandhi vacated it for the Rajya Sabha.
Rahul had also visited both Raebareli and Amethi the previous day.
