Young Africans(Yanga) coach Miguel Gamondi felt his team were robbed against Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday evening at the Loftus Versfeld.
Gamondi said VAR operators denied his side a goal which would have seen them qualify for the CAF Champions League semifinal.
The match finished 0-0 in both legs which meant a penalty shootout was needed to separate the two sides. Mamelodi Sundowns edged Yanga 3-2 at the end of the night.
“I don’t want to talk any more because I think everybody saw what happened here,” said Gamondi.
“Is there somebody here in this room who can tell me it was not a goal? Somebody must explain to me to why the referee didn’t go to (VAR) to check for himself, but he wants to check if there is a yellow card or red card.
Yanga coach questions ref decisions after Sundowns loss
“It is suspicious at least, if you want to defend the credibility of African football, it starts from that. Win the game and there is no problem, but win it clear.”
Mokwena said he was happy Sundowns reached the semis but also sympathised with Yanga coach.
“I can’t find words to appease him [Gamondi]; of course, the feeling of being robbed for any other coach [is not nice]. I would rather on my side be extremely complementary to the opposition instead of taking that direction,” Mokwena said.
“There were a lot of other situations, like a foul with an elbow on Devine Lunga inside the box, and that could have been a penalty.
“But I don’t wanna talk about those things. Maybe if I had lost, I would also take that direction, but let me be gracious and respectful in victory. They [Yanga] were a worthy opponent, a good side, one that we enjoyed playing against home and away,” said the Sundowns coach.
