DESTINY 2 launched its latest expansion last night, concluding the game’s 10-year-long first story arc.
The game’s new chapter was met with massive interest as players rushed to try the new content, apparently overwhelming Destiny 2’s servers.
Only on Steam, more than 314,000 players flocked to the game at peak hours last night.
The almost unprecedented influx of gamers nearly broke Destiny 2’s all-time record for concurrent players, but many experienced issues and bugs.
Some fans reported problems logging into the game, while others noticed that they were missing cutscenes and were getting kicked out of activities.
Destiny 2’s developer Bungie acknowledged the issues in a post on Reddit, apologising to all players and reassuring them the team is hard at work fixing the game.
“If connection issues have blocked you from playing or enjoying The Final Shape today, we want to apologize.”
“We built The Final Shape to be an exciting, cathartic, story-driven adventure for everyone to enjoy.
“We’re truly sorry if connection issues and instability is getting in the way of that experience, and we promise to keep working until these issues are resolved.”
The biggest issue according to Bungie are the so-called currant errors causing people to get kicked out of game activities and to miss cutscenes.
The latest updates from the team confirm that there has been a significant reduction in these errors following a server restart.
In a thread on Twitter/X, the Destiny 2 team reported a number of issues that have already been fixed, and offered a temporary workaround for players who have missed cutscenes.
Gamers can replay missions by accessing the Replayable Missions node in the middle of the Pale Heart map.
Destiny 2 fans are still advised to check the BungieHelp account on Twitter/X for new updates on game’s status.
