West Coast Eagles receive backlash as members given chance to vote on walk-out and goal music

A campaign for West Coast members to pick a song for players to run out to during the club’s Member Thank You Round has reignited calls for the club to go back to its original club anthem.

More than 100,000 Eagles members were sent an email on Wednesday offering them the chance to vote on what song they would like to hear play before the club song as the team enters Optus Stadium ahead of their final home-and-away fixture.

The members were also given the chance to pick songs for individual players who kick a goal.

The Eagles used Joker and The Thief for many years as their entry song but have cycled through a few changes in recent seasons and currently use No Fear by JR Jones.

However, the option to change songs has reignited fan debate about changing the overall club song, despite the Eagles already confirming they would look at making changes as early as the 2025 season.

Ann J took to X, formerly Twitter, to say, “The West Coast Eagles just sent out an email inviting members to choose a song for the team to run out to in R23. They just don’t get that we want the original song, the team anthem, not some pop song, not some regenerated team song, our original song! What don’t they get?”

Another fan wrote, “Seriously, what a pointless email you sent out to members. 99% of us members just want the club to revert back to the original team song and play that. How about trying that?”

Timothy Harrington pointed out they club should be more worried about their on-field efforts before celebrating them.
