Retiring West Coast greats Shannon Hurn, Luke Shuey and Nic Naitanui were given a hair-raising serenade from 47,000 Eagles faithful as they drew the curtains on their illustrious careers on Saturday.
Not a single bum was left in a seat as the trio signed off for the final time at Optus Stadium after the Eagles went down to Adelaide.
For the second year running, the Crows lined up for a guard of honour as West Coast’s all-time leading goalkicker Josh Kennedy and Liam Duggan chaired Shuey off.
Andrew Gaff and Andrew McGovern chaired the burly South Australian defender, while Jamaine Jones joked about carrying Naitanui, who declined offers.
“It’s been a great journey, and I’ve been fortunate to be at such a great club,” Hurn told the fans post-match.
“West Australia is such a great place, and there are so many great players and great people at this club, and these are memories I will have forever.”
Shuey said his final games went by in a blur but added his hamstrings would thank him later.
“It went quick,” he told Fox Footy.
“I feel like, after the last few weeks, I’ve played this game over in my head a thousand times, so getting here tonight feels like you’ve been here already.
“(The fans) have been outstanding this year. It’s been tough; not a lot to jump and cheer about, but they always turned up in numbers.
“It’s been an honour to play in front of them.”
Naitanui kept his words short and sharp.
“Thanks for coming out tonight and sticking with us through thick and thin,” he said to the fans.
