Who will play in the 2024 Rose Bowl, playoffs? – Orange County Register

The College Football Playoff Committee Announces 2024 National Championship Matchups

The College Football Playoff committee made a tough decision Sunday morning when it announced the four teams that will compete for this season’s national championship. Big Ten champion Michigan and Pac-12 champion Washington finished the season undefeated (13-0) and were ranked first and second respectively. Michigan will meet No. 4 Alabama in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Game (2 p.m. PT, ESPN) and Washington will play No. 3 Texas in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl (5:45 p.m. PT, ESPN). Both semifinal games will be played on Jan. 1, 2024. Florida State and Georgia were left just outside of the top four. Florida State won 13 straight games and beat Louisville 16-6 to win the ACC championship but it wasn’t enough to convince the committee after playing the final two games of the season without star quarterback Jordan Travis and having to play its third-string quarterback on Saturday evening. Georgia started the weekend as the top-ranked team but quarterback Jalen Milroe and Alabama took down the Bulldogs with a 27-24 victory in the SEC championship game. Texas made a statement with its 49-21 victory over Oklahoma State to claim the Big 12 title. Texas earned the third spot with a resume that includes a nonconference win over Alabama from earlier in the season.
