New Delhi: Several entrance examinations are held in the country which must be cleared at educational and professional levels, to get through the students’ choice of colleges and profession. One such examination is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), held for those who wish to pursue medicine and become doctors. The NEET examination for the undergraduate level – NEET UG 2024 was held recently and post the examination, Rajasthan aspirants alleged that there was a paper leak. Will NEET UG 2024 Be Reconducted?
As mentioned earlier, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG 2024) was conducted on May 5 by the National Testing Agency. After the examination, students in Rajasthan alleged that there was a paper leak and demanded that the exam must be reconducted. While the NTA outrightly denied any paper leak, a plea was filed in the apex court regarding the re-conducting of NEET UG 2024 and therefore postponement of the results. The court observed, “We will keep it after the summer break, but cannot stay the results of an all-India exam.” The plea was heard by a bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud and also had Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra.
NEET UG 2024 Result Date Postponed?
While hearing the plea, the Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Central government and has sought its response to the plea filed but at the same time, has refused to delay the result date. The case will now be heard in July, after the summer vacations but the result announcement will not be delayed because that would negatively impact the admission of students to the government and private medical colleges.
Student’s Plea On NEET UG Paper Leak
As quoted by Live Law, the plea regarding the NEET UG Paper Leak said, “The NEET UG paper leak infringes upon the fundamental right to equality and equal opportunities guaranteed under Article 14 of the Constitution of India as paper leak gives unfair advantage to some selected group of students, thereby compromising the rights of other meritorious students. It is respectfully submitted that paper leak undermines the merit-based selection process for medical colleges, affecting the future of countless aspiring doctors. The leakage skews the results in favour of those who had access to the leaked papers, disregarding the efforts of honest and meritorious candidates. The importance of the said examination is detailed hereunder.”
