Woman charged over alleged hit and run on 12yo Perth girl

A woman’s been charged over an alleged hit-and-run incident in which a 12-year-old girl was run down outside her high school.

It happened about 8.35am on June 27 when Alexis Lloyd was dropped off near Willetton Senior High School in the southern Perth suburb of Willetton.

WA Police ALLEGE a 49-year-old woman driving a white Suzuki Baleno hatchback hit Alexis as she was using a pedestrian crossing on Pinetree Gully Rd.

The woman allegedly stopped for a few seconds before driving off.

The girl suffered a broken right leg and a broken collarbone and was told she would have to use a wheelchair for six weeks.

The 49-year-old Maddington woman was arrested on Monday and charged with failing to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning grievous bodily harm, failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm, and having no authority to drive, the woman having never held a license.

She’s due before Armadale Magistrates Court on September 5.

Alexis’s mother Tory Carter told The West Australian that she had only dropped her daughter at school moments before the crash.

“I ran a kilometre to where she was … when I arrived, there were teachers all around her, and she was on the ground,” she told the paper.

“She kept asking me if she was bleeding. She was amazingly brave.”
