A man is fighting for life in hospital and another is in custody after a terrifying shooting in Wooroloo.
The gunshot victim was found by emergency services on Saturday morning around 8.30am and was flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC Rescue helicopter. He is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Officers took one man into custody a short time later amid a massive police search.
Advice issued earlier by police for people nearby to stay inside and lock their doors has now been lifted.
“While inquiries are ongoing into the potential involvement of several people, a search of the area has been conducted and there are no longer immediate concerns for public safety,” police said in a statement.
“Local residents are advised they can return to normal activity, however, they should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Police on 131 444.”
Police, including the TRG, drone operators and specialist units swarmed an area near the intersection of Needham Road and Murauba Close as the emergency unfolded, trying to determine whether any other people were involved in the shooting.
While a police helicopter circled above, armed officers surrounded multiple properties in the semi-rural area.
Details about what exactly unfolded are still scarce, however, a blue vehicle could be seen parked on Needham Road with all its doors open.
Forensic officers have been combing the scene, searching for clues in and around the blue vehicle as well as the area where the victim was believed to have been found by emergency crews.
Vision from the 7News helicopter then showed armed officers entering bushland on one of the properties at the centre of the search.
Police also escorted one man, who had a jumper over his head, along Needham Road, at about 10.05am.
Officers also assisted locals with officers helping one woman just after 9.30am to coax two dogs from one of the surrounding properties.
