Wyllie family steps in to help fund WA’s $100 million surf park

WA’s wealthy Wyllie family has jumped on board a plan to deliver a proposed $100 million wave park in Perth’s south.

The family is among a group of investors backing Aventuur, the company behind the park, which is expected to become a major sporting, tourism and entertainment destination in WA.

Slated for a lot near Jandakot on Prinsep Road, construction on the park is expected to start in 2024 and to open in late 2025.

Aventuur told The Australian that additional funds were raised from other investors, including Hearts and Minds chief investment officer Charlie Lanchester and Inloop founder Geoff Austen.

Located on a 5.7ha lot, it’s expected to be the largest in the southern hemisphere and will boast a 56-piston Wavegarden Cove that can create waves for almost 100 surfers at once.

In 2019, an initial plan to construct the park on the Alfred Cove foreshore had been rejected after it divided community opinion.

Just 20 minutes south of the CBD near Cockburn Central train station, the attraction is expected to also boast a boutique surf hotel, a health and wellness centre, a beach club, and restaurants.
