Yankees hold moment of silence for Rachel Minaya after her death

The Yankees held a moment of silence on Monday for Rachel Minaya, the wife of team executive Omar Minaya, after she died Saturday at the age of 55.

Rachel Minaya was found dead at the family’s home in Harrington Park, N.J.

Before the national anthem at Yankee Stadium on Monday, ahead of the series finale between the Yankees and Rays, public address announcer Paul Oden asked for a moment of silence while Rachel’s picture was shown on the scoreboard.

“We send our deepest condolences to Rachel’s family and friends during this time,” the Yankees wrote in a post on X.

Omar, the former Mets GM, joined the Yankees ahead of the 2023 season as a senior adviser to general manager Brian Cashman. He was not home at the time of his wife’s death.

Robert Murphy, the police chief of the Harrington Park Police Department, said Bergen County investigators were helping with the investigation into Rachel’s death.

“Officers went to the Minaya home at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday after a request for a welfare check from Minaya’s neighbor/family friend,” the chief said.

“Cops found her unconscious when they arrived. They tried to revive her, then brought her to Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood, where she was declared dead.”

When he was asked about suicide being ruled out, Murphy said:  “Nothing has been ruled out yet. That’s where we’re at. It’s up in the air.”

Murphy would not provide further information because the investigation is open and his police department was waiting for the toxicology results to come back.

The Minayas have two adult sons, Justin and Teddy. Justin is a forward with the Portland Trail Blazers and has been playing for their summer league team this month in Las Vegas.

This marks the second tragedy the Yankees have dealt with this season.

Just before Opening Day, Cathy Tusiani, the wife of senior vice president of partnerships Michael Tusiani, died when her car was hit by a falling tree during a storm in Armonk.
