Yet ANOTHER twist in Itumeleng Khune’s Kaizer Chiefs future?

The future of Kaizer Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune has taken yet another strange twist and we’re still not closer to knowing what’s next.

Is Khune staying put at Kaizer Chiefs for now?

FARPost has reported that Itumeleng Khune is back in training at Naturena despite being out of contract next week. In contrast, Siyethemba Sithebe, Keagan Dolly and Njabulo Ngcobo also have contracts expiring at the end of June with Ngcobo expected to sign for Sekhukhune imminently. Dolly and Sithebe weren’t in training, but Khune was there. Does that provide some sort of hint as to his immediate future and a U-Turn on his situation?

“About 28 Kaizer Chiefs players attended the session, and notable absentees included Siyethemba Sithebe, Njabulo Ngcobo, Keagan Dolly, and Sifiso Hlanti, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of June. Their absence adds a layer of uncertainty to the squad’s composition for the upcoming season. Ngcobo has already signed with Sekhukhune United. On the brighter side, legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was present, signalling his continued commitment to the club. He is also out of contract next week,” as per the FarPost report.

Legendary status cemented for Khune

The 37-year-old made his PSL debut for Amakhosi against Jomo Cosmos in August 2007. In the 17 years that have elapsed, he has scooped seven major honours with the Glamour Boys, including three DStv Premiership crowns in 2005, 2013 and 2015. This guy was also PSL Footballer of the Year in 2013. Say what you will, but Khune is a bona fide Amakhosi legend and his gloves will be huge ones to fill when he eventually calls time on his career. Known for his legendary distribution of the football, Itu Khune is a modern-day great in a goalkeeping context. 91 caps for Bafana Bafana undoubtedly qualify Knune as a South African great. Although distribution is the trait that has made him famous globally, don’t forget his amazing reflexes and loyalty. He has been a true one-club man.

When is Nasreddine Nabi starting pre-season?

Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi has finally publically acknowledged that Naturena is his next coaching destination. He’s in line to arrive at the club on July 1st or around there.

“I hope to attend the Throne Cup final, God Almighty willing. I learned from friends of mine inside Raja some time ago about the final date and it was said that it will be the 30th of this month. Therefore, before I leave for Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa to have my experience with them, I hope to supervise the Royal Army and I will be crowned with them in the Throne Cup final,” Nabi said in his post-match press conference after the semifinal win.

Would you hand Khune a new short-term deal if you were in charge?
