Young Perth boy Zac Humski captures incredible moment whale appears to teach calf to breathe

A young Perth boy has captured the incredible moment a mother whale appears to teach her calf how to breathe.

Accredited drone pilot Zac Humski, 12, was able to put his skills to the test on Monday when he stumbled across two whales while flying his drone from a boat about 10km off Yanchep.

Zac’s mum, Kim, said the spectacular sight made her son quite emotional.

“The mother and baby hung around for ages. The mother was carrying the baby on her nose, so we believe it was a very young baby learning to breathe and swim,” she said.

“Zac said that he doesn’t often get emotional about nature, but he was overcome seeing the whales!”

The accredited drone pilot showcases his work on his Facebook and Instagram pages Droning DownUnder and has amassed more than 1300 likes on his photographs.

Last week, another West Aussie had a close encounter with orca whales.

Crayfisherman Zac Mankelow posted an incredible video of the majestic creatures on Instagram this week after he spotted them swimming near his boat off the coast of Geraldton in the Abrolhos Islands.

In the video, at least one orca can be seen swimming right alongside the boat.
