Coinciding with the highly anticipated release of the Barbie move, Zara has taken advantage of the media buzz surrounding the film adaptation and has unveiled a capsule collection inspired by the iconic Mattel doll. The collection is already available for sale and will be accompanied by the launch of two pop-up stores in Paris and New York.

Barbie’s iconic looks have already made their way to the silver screen in Greta Gerwig’s latest feature film, and then onto the real-life red carpet with Margot Robbie dazzling in iconic Barbie-inspired outfits by Chanel, Prada, Valentino, and Schiaparelli. Now, the Barbie phenomenon is making its way further into the mainstream fashion industry with a collection by the all-powerful Inditex.

Starting on Monday, July 17, Zara is offering a capsule collection infused with pink, gold, and glitter accents. The collection draws inspiration from the colorful aesthetics and iconic looks featured in the movie. Designed for both men and women, mirroring Barbie and Ken, the collection includes clothing, accessories, pajamas, beauty products, and home accessories such as cups, straws, candles, mirrors, keychains, notebooks, and lunch boxes.

Among the standout fashion pieces are a white and pink gingham strapless midi dress with a clear 1950s influence, a silver mermaid-effect sequin dress, a range of garments featuring the recognizable Barbie logo, an extensive selection of denim looks and denim-inspired pieces (including a version inspired by Ken played by Ryan Gosling), and a large light pink leather ‘B’ shaped shopper bag. The collection will be available in a wide range of colors.

To complement the collection’s online and selected physical store release, Zara has launched two pop-up stores that will run until July 30. Located at Zara’s flagship store on the Champs-Élysées in Paris that opened just last April, and in SoHo, New York, the temporary spaces have been designed by Random Studio to transform the entrances into “Barbie’s dream house.”

Featuring life-sized sets from Barbie’s universe in the movie, the pop-up stores offer screens projecting scenes that allow visitors to immerse themselves in Barbie’s world. Visitors can also utilize themed fitting rooms or play with a vending machine.

Zara, the big sister of the Inditex giant, has not been the only brand to recognize the vast potential of Barbie. In recent times, various companies across different sectors and market positions, including Nyx, C&A, Aldo, Forever 21, and Balmain, have launched their own Barbie-inspired offerings, capitalizing on the recognizable pink universe of the doll.
