7NEWS Top Tourism Town Awards: Dwellingup up for back-to-back Top Tiny Tourism Town honours

Dwellingup is vying to take out back-to-back honours in the 2024 7NEWS Top Tourism Town Awards as public voting for the WA round of the nationwide competition opens.

The small town was named Top Tiny Tourism Town in WA last year and went on to take out the national accolade in September.

The 7NEWS Top Tourism Town Awards recognise and reward WA towns that demonstrate a strong commitment to encouraging tourism and increasing visitation.

Dwellingup has been nominated alongside seven other WA towns, including tourist favourites Coral Bay, Denham and Kalbarri.

Shire of Murray president David Bolt said he believed Dwellingup deserved ongoing recognition of its tourism draw and would be “absolutely delighted” to see it take out the top spot again.

“Just over an hour’s drive from Perth, Dwellingup has an abundance of nature-inspired experiences and unique offerings that suit adventurers of all ages,” Mr Bolt said.

“From hiking iconic tracks through ancient forests to riding internationally acclaimed hero dirt, Dwellingup is home to an array of trails waiting to be explored.

“There’s also galleries, cafes, wineries and steam train experiences.”

The awards will give a chance for Dwellingup to follow up its first win, but Mandurah — which was crowned Australia’s Top Tourism Town at the national awards in September — won’t be able to go for a repeat.

The city won the title of Top Tourism Town in WA at both the 2022 and 2023 State awards before taking out the national title for the first time last year, but has not been nominated again this year.

This year’s nominees in the main category for the WA awards are Busselton, Collie, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Newman.

Voting closes on May 22, with voters eligible to win a $5000 WA travel voucher or two-night stay at RAC Karri Valley Resort.

Public votes are combined with votes from an industry panel of judges.
