DOHA, April 25: Al-Sadd clinched their seventeenth league title in history by defeating Al-Shamal 4-0 in their recent match at Al-Bayt Stadium during the 21st round of the Expo Stars League.

Jassim Al-Buainain, President of the Qatar Football Association, awarded Al-Sadd with the league shield and gold medals, marking another milestone in the club’s illustrious history. With this victory, Al-Sadd further solidified their status as the most successful Qatari club in league history, claiming the title for the 17th time and bringing their total tally of championships to 78.

Securing the title with one round to spare, Al-Sadd dominated the league table with 49 points, comfortably ahead of their nearest competitor. Meanwhile, Al-Shamal remained in ninth place with 22 points, guaranteed to stay in the Expo Stars League.

Al-Sadd exhibited their determination from the onset, with Hassan Al Haidos scoring within the first nine minutes, followed by Gonzalo Plata’s goal in the 26th minute. The match took a turn for Al-Shamal when Iranian professional Omid Ebrahimi received a direct red card in the 40th minute.

The intensity continued as both Gonzalo Plata and Fahd Waad received direct red cards in the 73rd minute. Ten minutes later, Akram Afif sealed the victory with a penalty kick, while Paulo Otavio secured the fourth goal in the 90th + 5th minute, sealing Al-Sadd’s triumph and sparking celebrations among the fans.
