Anne Hathaway, Cillian Murphy Star in New Versace Icons Campaign

ICONS ONLY: Donatella Versace surely has a soft spot for Academy Award winners, as actors Anne Hathaway and Cillian Murphy have been tapped as the power duo fronting the new Versace Icons collection campaign, which will be officially released Wednesday.

This marks a return in the role for Hathaway and a first for man-of-the-moment Murphy, with a debut as face of the brand that coincides with Versace Icons’ inaugural collection for men, as reported.

“Strong, direct, iconic. For me, Anne and Cillian are two of the best actors of today. Exceptionally talented and kind people I admire and respect, looking their best. Very Versace,” said Donatella Versace, the brand’s chief creative officer.

Posing for photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the actors feature in a series of both colored and black-and-white portraits in looks styled by Jacob K. For example, in one of the images, Hathaway dons a full denim outfit, made up of a bustier top, jacket and jeans punctuated with the brand’s distinctive Medusa emblem.

Hollywood elite but with an approachable charm due to her fresh image and girl-next-door attitude, Hathaway embodies the Icons project’s push of timeless and everyday designs from the house. Tailoring is a key element, with highlights of the collection ranging from a women’s cropped raglan jacket with couture-like rounded shoulders to men’s tailored jackets with metal Medusa Biggie details across the breast pocket.

The Medusa or Barocco prints are also deployed to elevate everyday styles, such as cotton trenchcoats, while leather pieces include a dress in soft napa with a bodice exalting the figure.

“I have met so many Versace women who are powerful, emotionally available, ambitious, substantive, funny, fierce, loving, singular, sexy, smart, talented, generous, very much like Donatella. I have observed that a Versace Woman is herself,” Hathaway said.

“Collaborating with Donatella — from sharing image references to selecting the music of Fountains D.C. for the video — resulted in a campaign that reflects who I am,” echoed Murphy, adding that the “collection of well-cut empowering designs made from great fabric suits me perfectly.”

Last month Murphy took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Oppenheimer” wearing an Atelier Versace tuxedo accessorized with a gold Sauvereign brooch.
