Bunnings’ Beaumont Tiles opens first store in WA as national roll-out launches new front

Bunnings’ Beaumont Tiles chain is opening its first WA store in Joondalup, launching a new front in the hardware giant’s bid to win more work in bathroom and kitchen fit-outs.

The new store, which opens its doors on Friday, is part of an aggressive national roll-out of the Adelaide-based chain, acquired by Bunnings two years ago.

Established in 1960, Beaumont is Australia’s biggest tile retailer with more than 110 stores and distribution centres in several States.

However, Wesfarmers-owned Bunnings sees as an opportunity for the expanding network to help it capture more of the new building and renovation market.

Similarly, it has expressed interest in buying home construction step-out businesses in commercial paints, electrical, plumbing and whitegoods.

“We are looking at everything from the frame through to the finish,” Bunnings managing director Mike Schneider told The West Australian last year.

Beaumont, which is being run as a standalone business from Adelaide, offers more than 1400 tiles. hard flooring, bathroom ware, as well as glues, grouts, sealers, cleaners, adhesives and floor tools.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission approved the acquisition of the retailer from the Beaumont family in October 2021, but warned it would closely scrutinise the purchases of other specialty retailers by Bunnings as it moved up the construction chain.

Two years earlier, Bunnings bought Adelaide Tools to launch a new specialty tools business under the Tool Kit Depot brand that Bunnings hopes will generate more sales to tradies.
