Fong reported that G Lock took the photo on December 17, 2023, explaining that inmates only have the opportunity to take a photo on Christmas and Father’s Day. In her video post on X, she shared the photo, with the faces of other inmates obscured for privacy reasons. The photo shows a disheveled-looking Bankman-Fried, significantly different from his previous public appearances.
According to Fong, Bankman-Fried appears to have lost weight, and his grooming standards have declined, as she heard he is not showering much and is less clean-shaven than before. She comments on the evident changes he is undergoing while in custody.

Neither representatives for Bankman-Fried nor officials from the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center have commented on the photo’s authenticity.
