Dapper Dan Creates Capsule for Sherwin-Williams in Kingdom Gold Hue

Who knew paint had a loneliest color. Apparently, Dapper Dan did.

According to Sherwin-Williams, Kingdom Gold is the shade with the fewest gallons of color produced. But by working with the Harlem, N.Y., couturier, the paint brand may just change that.

Since 2011, Sherwin-Williams has singled out a Color of the Year. But to mix things up, this year, it is shining a light on its least popular color in a campaign entitled The Loneliest Color and it has tapped Dapper Dan to serve as creative director. He has created a wearable art collection in partnership with Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing, featuring the hue.

“I’ve always seen the impact that color has in every piece that I’ve designed,” Dapper Dan said. “To me, color champions our creative potential and radiates joy. My hope is that The Loneliest Color will help people find the confidence to show the world their true colors. Be unapologetic about their style and design choices. Embrace Kingdom Gold or any color that is personal, not just popular.”

The collection features eight one-of-a-kind pieces including a classic velour zip-up jacket, reimagined in Kingdom Gold and emblazoned with a leopard; a bucket hat in the same tone and also featuring a leopard, and a velour vest with a faux shearling lining. The capsule also includes a soccer kit in recycled nylon spandex, a vegan leather jacket and two sneakers: a reimagined pair of Puma Ralph Sampsons and Puma Clyde OG shoes.

Dapper Dan’s pieces will be auctioned off on eBay with bidding starting at noon ET on Thursday and running through April 14. All proceeds from the sale of the items will be donated to Habitat for Humanity with a minimum contribution of $100,000 as well as affiliate organizations in Dapper Dan’s Harlem neighborhood.
