Farmer Wants a Wife: ‘Frustrated’ Joe confronts ladies on ‘concerning’ rumour

Spoiler alert

Farmer Wants a Wife contestant Joe put one of his ladies on the spot on Monday night after hearing whispers of how she pictured her future.

The farmer, who had made it clear he was looking for a lady who wished for a life on the land, heard that the 27-year-old fashion stylist didn’t see her future on the farm.

The rumours began to swirl when all the farmers and their ladies came together for a night of camping.

Speaking with ladies from other farms, Calya admitted she did not see her future on the farm — and word was quick to spread to Farmer Joe’s other hopeful ladies.

“There was a bit that happened on the camping trip, it definitely made me concerned,” contestant Keely told producers.

She reiterated that Joe is “very adamant about” his partner living on the farm, adding “he has a right to know the truth”.

Pulling Joe aside for a chat, Keely told him what she had heard.

“I don’t know what (Calya has) told you, but from what she’s told us girls, she doesn’t necessarily want to be here,” Keely told the farmer.

“It’s a bit frustrating to have someone create all this drama knowing that they don’t really want to be here.

“It’s like, ‘Why are you doing this? Why are you affecting the rest of our chances of getting to know you?’”

Joe said he wanted to raise the topic at the farewell dinner that night.

“I’ve got some big questions and I want to hear it from Calya. I’m a bit sick of being blindsided, if I’m being honest,” he told producers ahead of the dinner.

‘Feel like I’m in the dark’

Sitting down at the dining table with his remaining ladies, Joe was quick to raise the topic.

“I have one question that has been brought up. I don’t really know what has gone on,” he began.

“I’m hearing snippets.”

Calya was quick to ask him, “Who are you hearing snippets from?”

An awkward silence followed until Keely chose to cut in, revealing that she had spoken with the farmer earlier in the day about her concern.

Answering Joe directly, Calya told him that she “didn’t think it was necessary to bring it to you because it has nothing to do with my connection with you”.

Joe expressed to the ladies that he felt he was getting news in “dribs and drabs”.

“I always feel like I’m in the dark, I have no idea what’s going on, and that has concerned me.”

Wishing to hear it “from the horse’s mouth,” Joe pulled Calya outside for a conversation.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s been hard,” she confessed.

“I felt so good after our date and I was here and present, but then after the days of processing, I was like … ‘I care about you so much, I’m just so focused on what I want to achieve. I don’t see myself full-time on a farm.’”

Joe explained that with their relationship, it was a “head (versus) heart type of thing”.

“A lifestyle here with me would be holding you back from your full potential,” he said before they mutually made the call that their relationship was up.

Explaining the decision later, Joe told producers, “One of us would have had to have compromised more than we were willing to.”

Farmer Want a Wife continues Tuesday, May 7 on Channel 7 and 7plus.
