Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept Debuts In China Previewing An Electric Performance Sedan

While the V6-powered Genesis G80 Magma concept is still fresh in our minds, the Korean brand presented an electric version of the performance-focused sedan at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. The Genesis G80 EV Magma concept trades the signature orange shade for a China-specific Acme Blue, combined with a new set of aero 21-inch alloy wheels, and a carbon fiber bodykit.

}

According to SangYup Lee, Head of Genesis Global Design, The new shade shows that the Magma program is not “bounded by a single color or form”. The Acme Blue was inspired by blue flames which are known for burning at the highest temperature range.

Another highlight of the new concept is the 21-inch alloy wheels that not only reduce unsprung weight but also contribute to brake cooling thanks to their aero-optimised design. The rest of the bodykit is similar to the ICE-powered version, with extensive use of carbon fiber and widened fenders. However, there are a few changes signifying the zero-emission nature of this particular Magma.

The Crest grille is fully covered for better aerodynamics and the roof features solar panels which are said to provide a few extra miles of range between charges. At the back, the ducktail spoiler is more subtle than in the ICE version, and the quad tailpipes are missing from the diffuser with the integrated F1-style light.

Genesis didn’t announce the specifications of the fully electric powertrain but said that the G80 EV Magma “exceeds the traditional ICE in power”. The twin-turbo V6 on the G80 Magma is said to produce around 500 hp, a figure that could be easily surpassed by a dual electric motor setup.

The performance-focused sedan is equipped with an “advanced suspension system”, specially tuned for greater handling. The ride has been lowered and the tracks are wider compared to the stock G80 Electrified. Stopping power has also been upgraded with larger ventilated brakes.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
