In the spotlight today: Meet New York-based Lisa Sher-Chambers. She’s spent her life devoted to fashion and finds joy mixing juxtaposing styles: Think pairing masculine and feminine—and vintage and modern—for a unique twist.

My signature look: Something classic—with an edge. The most exciting thing about fashion is how it offers endless surprises. Menswear, when paired with more feminine items, always offers exciting possibilities. When I was 20, I couldn’t even picture what I’d be wearing in my fifties, but I’m happy with how my style has evolved over the years. My favorite looks always come from mixing vintage finds with new pieces. I have a rust-oxblood herringbone wool coat with orange sequins and stones from Libertine that I wear almost every day, and people always stop me to ask about it!
My favorite designers: Right now, I love Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta because of his incredible use of leather—particularly the trompe l’oeil leather sweater resembling wool flannel and denim. I splurged on a cream-colored wool sweater with knot buttons on the shoulder, and I wore it all winter—at least three times a week. I styled it many ways, but mostly with jeans and a blazer. I also love Peter Do, because his collections embody the power that dressing can have. Powerful femininity is key to making me look and feel my best, and Peter Do mixes mediums like sheers and leathers, making the clothing soft but edgy. And Sergio Hudson chooses incredible colors for his collections—just look at the chocolate browns, the greens, the blues, and the yellows!
On my fashion wish list: As a petite woman, I’d love to get my hands on black and brown leather midi or maxi skirts that fit me perfectly. I’m also drawn to cerulean blue pants suits. I also once had a Burberry red and black check kilt with leather straps and the most gorgeous lace bottom edge that I purchased in the 90s—I lost it after multiple moves around the country and would do anything to replace it…
A fun fact about me: Fashion and style run through my veins: My grandfather started a womenswear clothing company in the 1950s called Bevero New York, and—two generations and a few name-changes later—I worked there.
