HAVZA: New beachside tapas restaurant opens next to The Basin on Rottnest Island

A new beachside eatery has opened up on the mesmerising shores of Rottnest Island and offers the ultimate tapas experience.

HAVZA is an Aegean fusion restaurant just 10 minutes from the main settlement and overlooks the popular beach, The Basin.

The laid-back venue offers a share-style menu of flavours that stem from the Mediterranean diet, all made from local WA produce.

Sandy feet are encouraged at the outdoor venue as it follows a relaxed and coastal theme, but the menu is nothing short of lavish.

Owner and head chef Glenn Evans, who is also the brains behind The Lane and Simmo’s on Wadjemup, told So Perth that guests can indulge in fresh seafood and grass-fed meats.

“You can expect grass-fed beef and lamb, alongside creative salads, and daily fresh seafood from surrounding seaside regions. Albany rock oysters, red emperor, goldband snapper, Shark Bay whiting, Abrolhos scallops, and Wedge Island octopus to list a few,” he said.

Guests can also enjoy delicious salads which can be served with hand-crafted pitas or gyros with homemade koftas, tzatziki and tabbouleh.

HAVZA translates to “basin” in Turkish, which Evans says his southern Turkish travels in the mid-nineties sparked his idea for the beachside pop-up.

The casual venue is set to trade from late spring until late autumn each year.

“Given the pristine weather we’ve been experiencing, this season we hope to trade until the June long weekend. We’re hoping to return around November 1st, and are planning to introduce a lunch offer next season,” Evans said.

The venue is open from 12-8pm every day except Monday and Tuesday and bookings can be made via their email at [email protected].
