PLAYSTATION has been at the top of its game this year with a number of popular exclusives.

Most recently people have been loving Stellar Blade, but before that people were deep into Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2 is an online multiplayer shooter, where players work together to complete missions in the name of Super Earth.

While it is a PlayStation console exclusive, it is still available for anyone who wants to play on PC.

Since its launch, all you needed was a Steam account if you wanted to play, but PlayStation is changing up how it works.

An announcement was shared by the team revealing that players would also need a PlayStation account if they wanted to play, even if they were playing on PC.

The statement reads: “We allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire.

“As of May 6, all new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account.

“Current players on Steam will start to see the mandatory login from May 30 and will be required to have a linked Steam account and PlayStation Network account by June 4.”

So depending on whether you are a new or old Steam player of Helldivers 2, you will have to sign up for a PlayStation account from May 6, or June 4 respectively.

The statement claims that the change is to help hold players accountable for abusive behaviour.

Players are furious about the change, as many don’t own a PlayStation console and have no need for a PlayStation account.

They also believe that PlayStation is only asking for this to collect player data.

These people have been review bombing the game including those who have spent more than 100 hours playing.

This is because people feel the change will reduce the player count, and create a further barrier to playing.

One user wrote: “PSN requirement all of a sudden? Yeah, not happening. I contacted steam support the second I was made aware and requested a refund.

“I will under no circumstance be forced into having a PSN account for a product that never even informed  us that this might become a requirement in the future.

“It’s a deceptive business practice and I will not stand for it.”
