Honda lawnmowers sold at Bunnings recalled over manufacturing defect which could lead to injury

A lawnmower sold at Bunnings has been recalled over a manufacturing defect which could pose a risk of injury to the user.

All models of the Honda Australia HRN216 and HRX217 lawn mowers have been recalled.

The affected HRN216 Mulch and Catch Domestic Lawn Mower with GCV170 engine models include: HRN216PKU, HRN216VKU and HRN216VYU.

The recalled models of the HRX217 Mulch and Catch Premium Domestic Lawn Mower with GCV200 engine include: HRX217HYU and HRX217HZU (electric start).

The lawnmowers were also sold nationally online via the Honda website and at a variety of authorised Honda dealers.

According to Product Safety Australia (PSA), a manufacturing defect may lead to a mechanism in the lawnmower’s engine to malfunction.

If this happens in models without an electric starter, “excessive force” may be required to pull the starter rope to start the engine, PSA said.

In the model with an electric starter, the starter may fail to start the motor.

“There is a risk of a strain injury from kickback of the starter rope because of high compression within the engine,” PSA said.

Consumers have been urged to stop using the affected mowers “immediately” and contact the nearest authorised Honda Power Equipment dealer to arrange a free repair.

For more information impacted customers can visit the PSA website or contact Honda customer relations on 1300 559 846.
