Hong Kong to host landmark Asia Summit on Global Health

Hong Kong is preparing to host the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH), an international health conference on May 16-17, the first time the event will be held for two days physically.

Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in partnership with the Hong Kong SAR Government, the ASGH will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It brings together a distinguished list of government officials, business leaders, investors, and academics from around the world and features over 150 exhibitors from 9 countries and regions. 

Under the theme “Innovation.Inclusion.Impact”, the summit is an integral part of the larger International Health Week – a campaign designed to foster cross-disciplinary exchange through a range of activities including seminars, workshops, and conferences.

A packed agenda

The summit will feature a series of plenary sessions, including one by Professor Roger Kornberg, 2006 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and George A. Winzer Professor of Medicine, Professor of Structural Biology at Stanford University School of Medicine, who will deliver a keynote session on “Diagnosis, Design and Delivery – New Technologies in Biotechnology “. He will then join other distinguished speakers to discuss the promotion of emerging technologies and trends in healthcare innovation that address healthcare disparities.

This year’s summit will explore critical areas such as China’s evolving healthcare landscape, innovations advancing healthcare in Asia, and new frontiers in healthy ageing.

Highlighted sessions will cover a wide range of topics including China’s burgeoning healthcare market and its investment potential, innovations in drug development and biotechnology across Asia, and the effective integration of modern technology in managing ageing populations.

These sessions will feature an impressive line-up of speakers, including Prof Lau Chak-sing from the University of Hong Kong, Antony Leung from the Nan Fung Group, Yu Xuefeng from CanSino Biologics Inc, and Zhu Yeqing from New Horizon Health.

Dr Sangtae Kim of Bertis Bioscience, Yasushi Okada of Eisai Co, Ltd, Japan, Dr Sarah Salvilla of FWD Group as well as Prof Yang Mengsu Michael of the City University of Hong Kong, among others, will take part in a panel discussion moderated by Bernard Charnwut Chan of Asia Financial Holdings Limited on Asia’s latest advances and research in healthcare.

In another panel on healthy ageing, moderated by Dr Lam Ching-choi, Non-official Member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Government, Ada Cheng of the Australian Nursing Home Foundation, Steven Leung of Guardforce Group, Stella Ling of Cognitact Group and Garri Zmudze of LongeVC, will discuss the importance of healthy ageing and its impact on individuals and society, as well as current challenges and trends in ageing and care.

In the “Dialogue with Global Pioneer in Health” session, Prof Michael Hanna, the Director of UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, will provide illuminating insights into the latest advancements and breakthroughs in the field of neurology.
Discussions will also cover topics such as precision medicine, innovative drug discovery, neuroscience and the role of insurance in healthcare.

Networking and deal-making opportunities

A unique feature of the ASGH is its emphasis on deal-making opportunities, facilitating one-to-one meetings between investors and global healthcare project owners. 

This arrangement not only promotes healthcare investment but also connects start-ups with potential investors and partners through project pitches and presentations
