In this article, I am going to share my review of the HONOR Magic V2, currently the thinnest and lightest foldable smartphone on the market with only five devices from various brands on offer.
After having the HONOR Magic V2 in my possession for two weeks I must admit this phone is more than just a phone, it is simply a must-have!
Whether you are a working professional or just an avid technology enthusiast, this device has so much to offer that it is made for anyone and everyone.
The HONOR Magic V2 is not only elegant, it is also lightweight measuring 9.9mm and weighing 231g, ultra thin and folds out to a large tablet screen.
With a built-in stand, this device is far ahead of any of its competitors.
With its seamless fold, you can enjoy perfect viewing capabilities without realising that the screen has the capability of folding in two.
The HONOR Magic V2, which comes in black with a special vegan leather back, will be available for the recommended retail price of R39 999 and is currently available from Vodacom and Cellucity branches on contract for those of us who cannot magically make R39 999 appear.

The camera
What initially blew me away was not only the incredible size of the two screens or the fact that the device has two batteries, which I will elaborate on more shortly, but rather the camera capability.
The device takes outrageously stunning photos with its triple-lens rear camera setup featuring a 50MP main sensor and OIS.
The dual 16MP front cameras excel in capturing selfies and facilitating high-quality video calls.
The HONOR Magic V2’s AI-driven Falcon Camera System and groundbreaking hover state offer a revolutionary way to capture your world.
The storage and the total amount of folds
In the two weeks I had to review this device a work trip came up and I was able to use this device to its full potential.
I downloaded some episodes of a new series and was shocked to see that the device has not only 16GB of RAM but a total of 512GB of storage.
This is simply unheard of!
As I watched my downloaded series on the HONOR Magic V2, it was like watching on a perfect screen as the seam is nearly invisible due to the reimagined gearless hinge design developed by the brand.
The HONOR Super-light Titanium Hinge (which is a first of its kind) is SGS-certified for its reliability, resulting in the shaft cover strength increasing by 150%.
The suspended water-drop support of the hinge is also strong and flexible, creating no visible creases when the device is unfolded.
In other words, this foldable device is guaranteed to last up to 10 years or equal to 400 thousand folds.
Yes, you read that right… 400 000 folds!
The battery
So, as I mentioned earlier, the HONOR Magic V2 has its own specially developed battery a 5000mAh Dual Silicon-Carbon Battery featuring and equipped with HONOR’s 66W SuperCharge technology that can last up to 24 hours on a single charge, or more than 13 hours for a binge-watching session.
This is a 12.8% higher energy density than regular batteries.
In the two weeks I had the ‘HONOR’ to play with this device, I charged it maybe seven times.
It was a pleasant change of pace from my current device which has reached that point where we require multiple charges in 24 hours.
The screen
You will also be glad to know that the device does not overheat thanks to HONOR’s specially equipped Ultra-Thin Bionic Cooling System, providing a heat dissipation area of 29 000mm squared, ensuring optimal performance during intense video viewing or gaming sessions.
This is a huge perk considering the endless binge-watching that can be done.
To take it to a whole new level, the HONOR Magic V2 has designed the 0-Risk Eye Comfort Display kicks in – which incorporates features such as 3840Hz PWM dimming, Dynamic Dimming and Circadian Night Display to effectively reduce fatigue and enhance eye comfort.
Not even my smart TV takes care of my eyes or my circadian rhythm as the HONOR Magic V2 does!
Work and personal life in symbiosis
The split-screen multitasking option that is available when unfolded is ingenious.
Just as I thought I would need to get another device to split my work and personal life, the HONOR Magic V2 brings balance into any busy schedule that requires you to do more!
It has advanced multitasking capabilities, such as the ability to have up to four apps on screen – two in split-screen and two more in smaller free-floating pop-out windows.
It also allows users to have dual SIM cards which is perfect for travelling out of the country.
The Magic V2 was officially launched on 20 March 2024 at the HONOR Magic Series launch event and hit South African shelves on 2 April 2024.

All around, this device is just about the best thing I have ever come across.
Not only a phone for work and personal life but also a tablet.
The quality of this device is sensational – from the sleek design, the seamless screen when opened, the perfect external screen, the sound and display quality (I can go on)…
My only downside is that as an avid iOS user, I have gotten used to using the specific features of all my Mac devices.
However, if I was going to move to an Android device, HONOR would be where I’d be gouging right away!
It is clear that the HONOR team have not only carefully rethought smartphones, but they have reinvented it.
