Hope Sheekey: Woman called ex Emilio Aguero 100 times a day and threatened to kill him

A besotted student bombarded her ex-boyfriend with 100 phone calls a day and threatened to kill him after they split up.

Hope Sheekey, 29, used 12 different phone numbers to hound Emilio Aguero after he told her he wanted to break off their relationship.

Although he made it clear he did not want to see Sheekey, she refused to accept their relationship was over and continued to contact him on the phone and social media after he blocked her various numbers.

In one sinister message, Sheekey, who studied modern languages at Chester University, said: “I have a knife. I am going to kill you. I want to see you.”

Mr Aguero told magistrates in Warrington that he became so anxious that he was “living in fear” of seeing Sheekey and had stopped using the front door to his block of flats.

“I had to go to the doctor for my mental health, and I had to ring the police,” he said.

“I am anxious, especially because she said she had a knife and said she was going to kill me. I fear that I could go outside one day, and she could be there with a knife. I have stopped using the front entrance of the building as a result.”

The court was told that the harassment began in October when Mr Aguero told Sheekey, who is from Wigan, that he had “fallen out of love” with her and wanted to split up. Sarah McInerney, prosecuting, said that over the following two months, Sheekey bombarded Mr Aguero of Old Trafford, Manchester, with up to 100 phone calls a day, sometimes late at night.

“She stated that she was coming to Manchester to see him,” Ms McInerney said. “He told her not to and blocked her number but he received multiple calls from some unknown numbers. There were more than 100 calls on that day.

“In all, 12 different numbers were used, including restricted numbers. The defendant also began to contact him on social media, such as Facebook, where she was blocked.

“She continued to call the victim’s family, and at one point, she said, ‘I have a knife. I am going to kill you. I want to see you.“

The court heard Sheekey, who pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment, admitted making the calls when questioned by police.

In mitigation, her lawyer, John Black, said Sheekey had not contacted Mr Aguero since November last year and had no intention of doing so in the future.

“This lady is of good character and admitted the allegation when she first appeared before your colleagues,” Mr Black said.

“She fully accepts that her behaviour was wrong and inappropriate.”

Magistrates banned Sheekey from contacting Mr Aguero for 12 months under the terms of a restraining order. She was also fined £266 and ordered to pay £234 costs.

Sheekey was also sentenced to a 12-month community order with requirements to undergo mental health treatment if she is deemed suitable. She was also ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitative activity.
