Huawei Announces Partnership With Legendary Camera-Maker Leica

Huawei Consumer Business Group (BG) and legendary camera manufacturer Leica have announced a strategic partnership where both the companies have agreed to have “long-term commitment.”

In a press statement, both the companies said that the co-operation will see an attempt to “create a powerhouse in the reinvention of smartphone photography.” While the details about how the partnership will work wasn’t clear, but the companies agreed that it will span research and development, design, co-engineering and user experience, while marketing and retail distribution will be shared as the partnership continues.

Announcing the partnership, Richard Yu, CEO of the Huawei Consumer BG said: “We choose our partners carefully, and with this extraordinary collaboration we are offering our wide customer base and consumers the best elements of two expert brands in harmony: combining innovation and design, enhancing the user experience and continuing to inspire amazing advancement in human technology through exceptional premium imaging quality. Leica is a legend in the world of photography; we believe no other manufacturer has revolutionised the industry as much as them. We, Huawei, take the utmost pride in exceptional quality and Leica is in a class of its own in its sector.”

It’s worth mentioning that Leica previously had a deal with Panasonic under which the first Android-powered camera-phone from the company, the Lumix DMC-CM1, was unveiled. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 sports a 20-megapixel sensor with an f/2.8 Leica DC Elmarit lens.

The Chinese company at this year’s MWC unveiled MateBook, its first 2-in-1, or laptop-tablet hybrid, and entered the PC business.
