I spent £2k removing my double chin – I went from saggy to snatched in hours & look like I’ve got a permanent filter on

A MUM went from “saggy to snatched” in just a few hours after £2,000 surgery to remove her double chin.

Angela Hutchinson, 33, had struggled with excess fat on her neck since she was a teenager.

The mum-of-four lost 1st 8lbs (10kg) to drop to 12st 2lb (77kg) but was “disheartened” to find her chin hadn’t budged.

She decided to go for chin liposuction – where fat is removed via a cannula – after spotting a TikTok influencer talking about her experience.

Angela travelled two hours to get it done in Sydney, Australia, splashing £2,085 on the procedure.

Now, she feels better than ever – like she has a “permanent filter on”.

Angela, a salon owner from Central Coast, New South Wales, said: “When I booked my lipo, I burst into tears because I’d wanted to get it for so long, and the results are amazing.

“The recovery time has been so quick – I bruised really badly but it disappeared within six days.

“When I compare my before and after pictures I feel ecstatic – I don’t feel like I need to hide away from the camera anymore.”

Angela decided to start losing weight in January 2023 after a traumatic 2022 left her turning to snacks for comfort.

Her youngest son, Cian, three, was having unexplained seizures and she says she coped by eating.

But on New Year’s Day, she made a resolution to lose a stone – after Cian recovered.

She said: “I’d gained 2st 5lbs (15kg) in a year because my son was having seizures.

“It was so quick because I was just stress-eating all the time.

“I decided to do something about it as 15kg is a lot.”

Since then, Angela has been in a calorie deficit – eating fewer calories than she’s burning.

She also spends one hour a day, five days a week, doing cardio in the gym.

She dropped 1st 5lb (9kg) in 15 months and felt “great” – but couldn’t help noticing she wasn’t losing her double chin.

Angela said: “It was making me really self-conscious.

“If someone took a candid photo of me, it’d be the first thing I’d notice.

“I’d be like, ‘Wow.’ “I felt so disheartened, even though I was losing weight everywhere else.”

After watching a video of herself aged 15 and noticing she still had a double chin – she realised it was likely down to genetics, and it was only going to get worse with age.

“I even had it in 2005, when I was a teenager,” Angela said.

“Looking back at when I was young, I still had it – so I knew there was no way around it.

“It’s been slowly getting worse and worse – and it wasn’t ever going to get better naturally.”

Angela started looking at chin liposuction on TikTok – and found a Sydney-based creator showing off her results.

She looked into it and decided to “do this one thing for myself”.

Angela paid a £229 deposit and had a consultation and blood work in March 2024 before booking her surgery for the following month.

She was awake for the procedure on April 16 but was given local anaesthetic to numb her face.

Her doctor took fat from three points – two behind each ear, and one in the chin.

“He went through the entry points with a cannula,” she said.

“It was less invasive – and I was so surprised at how good it was.

“I couldn’t feel a thing.”

‘INSANE’ RESULTS

She was given a chin strap and headwrap to wear for three days and told to take it easy.

Angela said: “I feel like it healed so quickly. All the bruising was gone after six days, even though I bruised pretty badly.

“I do swell up every now and then – but it’s pretty much all done with.

“I’ve been given advice to be really careful about weight gain for the next three years.

“You have to actively keep trying to lose weight for three years after the procedure before moving into maintenance, otherwise it’ll come back.”

Now, Angela isn’t fussed about candid photos – and loves the way she looks from every angle.

She added: “We celebrated Anzac Day in Australia the other day and there were loads of pictures taken of me.

“The results have been insane. I’m really, really happy.”

How to get rid of a double chin

A double chin occurs when a layer of fat around your neck sags, causing a wrinkle, which gives the illusion of having two chins.

But the fact is, you do not have to be overweight for this to happen.

Some people are genetically predisposed to a double chin, meaning they have a family history of skin with little elasticity.

If the skin loses its elasticity it cannot hold the fat around the chin firmly.

A double chin can also happen as you age and begin to lose muscle, and because of bad posture.

Getting rid of a double chin might be no easy feat, but doing a few simple exercises can significantly strengthen your neck muscles.

  1. Pucker up – stretch your neck as if to kiss the sky, hold for five to 10 seconds (repeat 10 to 15 times)
  2. Pout – stick your bottom lip out as far as possible to form a pout and hold for three seconds, then tilt your chin towards your chest and hold for another three seconds (repeat 10 to 20 times)
  3. Whistle at the ceiling – tilt your head back and close your lips into a whistling position and hold for 10 to 20 seconds (repeat 10 times)
  4. Use a ball – place a ball under your chin and slowly press down in a steady motion, then release (repeat 10 to 30 times)
  5. Chew gum – chew gum between meals to exercise your facial muscles and stop you snacking

The dangers of liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that involves sucking out small areas of fat that are hard to lose through exercise and healthy diet – commonly the bottom, hips, thighs and tummy.

While it can achieve good results, it can be dangerous.

The NHS warns: “If you’re considering having liposuction for cosmetic reasons, think very carefully before you go ahead.

“It can be expensive, the results cannot be guaranteed, and there are risks to consider. Speak to your GP about it.”

Common liposuction side effects include:

  • Bruising and swelling for up to six months
  • Numbness for up to eight weeks
  • Scars
  • Inflammation of the treated area or veins underneath
  • Fluid coming from the cuts
  • Swollen ankles

More serious complications include:

  • Lumpy and uneven results
  • Bleeding under the skin
  • Persistent numbness
  • Changes in skin colour
  • A build-up of fluid in the lungs
  • A blood clot in the lungs
  • Damage to internal organs
  • Excessive bleeding
  • A blood clot in a vein
  • Infection
  • Allergic reaction

If you are looking to get liposuction, make sure you check the Care Quality Commission (CQC) website for treatment centres.

You should also research the individual surgeon and check: if they are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), how many liposuctions they have performed where there have been complications, what sort of follow-up you should expect if things go wrong, and what their own patient satisfaction rates are, the NHS says.
