‘Is that how I overslept on a meeting last week?’ iPhone owners ask as Apple confirms bug is SILENCING people’s alarms

IF you have overslept or arrived late to work recently, don’t worry – just tell your boss it was your iPhone’s fault.

Apple has confirmed to Today that a software bug is silencing scheduled alarms on iPhones worldwide.

With the heyday of bedside alarm clocks creeping behind us, more people than ever are relying on their smartphones to wake them up in the mornings.

Apple has said it is “aware of an issue causing some iPhone alarms to not play the expected sound,” according to the report and “is working on a fix.”

It follows a string of complaints made by iPhone owners on social media, who say the alarm will pop up on their screens but with no sound.

“Wait is that how I overslept on a meeting last week?,” one Apple customer asked on X (formerly Twitter).

“I never do that, and my wife and baby slept right through it too.

“I just assumed I somehow silenced it while still asleep.”

Another wrote: “I thought I was going crazy or sleeping too damn tight.”

While a third tweeted: “I can’t wait to see the “Chief, this is why I was late” in the group chat.”

Not all iPhone owners have been affected – and some people made their phone alarms redundant a while ago.

“Get a toddler. Guaranteed to be up (early). Every. Single. Day,” one onlooker joked.

What do the iPhone dots really mean?

Bugs of these kinds typically relate to some kind of time change.

It’s unclear exactly when Apple will roll out a fix, although iPhone owners are due an iOS update.

The next iOS update, iOS 17.5, is forecast to land on devices in the coming weeks.

This could be anywhere between May 7 and May 14, according to Forbes estimates.
