Jake and Callum Robinson update: Three people reportedly arrested in hunt for missing brothers in Mexico

Three people have reportedly been arrested in the hunt for two missing WA brothers in Mexico as the family holds out hope they’ll both be found alive and well.

News broke on Thursday that the two men, who had been on a surfing trip in the Baja California region of Mexico, near Ensenada, had failed to check into their accommodation in the city of Rosarita on April 28.

Family and friends hold serious concerns for their wellbeing as Callum is a diabetic.

The Perth-based family issued a desperate plea for information that could help track them down.

On Friday, 9NEWS reported Baja California Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez as telling reporters that three Mexican people were arrested in connection with the case.

Ms Ramírez said investigators were focusing on three abandoned tents discovered south of the Ensenada region.

Late on Thursday, it was reported a woman had been arrested after she was discovered in possession of one of the missing men’s mobile phones as well as a quantity of methamphetamine.

Ms Ramirez was sworn into office in August 2023, promising to create a special prosecutor’s office for missing people, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

It’s understood that Callum, a skilled lacrosse player, had been living in San Diego and Jake had gone to visit him before the trip down the coast.

In a statement to The Nightly on Thursday, their mother Debra said the family was deeply distressed by the situation.

“We sincerely appreciate everyone’s concern and thoughts,” Mrs Robinson said.

“We continue to have hope that our two beautiful sons are found.

“It is a deeply distressing time for us and (we) ask the media to respect our privacy at this time.”

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson confirmed the agency was assisting the family.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of two Australians reported missing in Mexico,” the spokesperson said.

“Owing to our privacy obligations we are unable to provide further comment.”
