Jamie Foxx said he “went to hell and back” but was “coming back,” in his first statement since he was hospitalised with an unspecified medical emergency in April.
“I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through, and I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you I just didn’t want you to see me like that man,” the “Django Unchained” star said, in an emotional three-minute video posted to his Instagram account on Friday, US time.

“I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show,” he added.
“I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”
Although he did not say what exactly what caused him to be hospitalised, Foxx, 55, said, “I went to hell and back,” adding that his “road to recovery had some potholes as well, but I’m coming back and I’m able to work.”
Thanking “everybody that’s prayed man and sent me messages,” he also expressed his gratitude to the “great medical people” who treated him. “I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” he said.
He also credited his sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne Foxx, saying they had “saved his life.” He added that they “kept it airtight, they let nothing out, they protected me. And that’s what I hope everyone could have in moments like these.”
Corinne shared the news that the actor was recuperating in May, almost a month after he was hospitalised while filming in Atlanta.
At the time he was working on “Back in Action” alongside Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz.
Foxx has remained out of the public eye for months, missing the premiere for his latest movie “They Cloned Tyrone” in June.
If you see me out from now on, and every once in a while I just burst into tears, it’s because it’s been tough man, I was sick man, but now I’ve got my legs under me so you’ll see me out,” he said.
The post prompted a reaction from some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Kevin Hart who responded to the video by writing, “This video just warmed my soul … Foxx you are needed man. We love you and we are forever with you.”
Actor Tracee Ellis Ross also commented, writing, “Sending you so much love!!!”
Foxx shot up to Hollywood’s A-list for his portrayal of legendary singer Ray Charles in the biopic “Ray.” The role garnered Foxx the Academy Award for best actor in 2005. He has also starred in “Ali,” “Dreamgirls” and “Miami Vice.”
