King Charles, niece Zara Tindall break royal protocol and hug

King Charles III and his niece Zara Tindall just broke royal protocol.

The monarch, 75, and Zara, 42, hugged at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in Berkshire, England, on Friday.

King Charles had a smile on his face as his niece technically disobeyed the strict protocol for the royal family by embracing the king at a public affair.

The monarch wore a large beige trenchcoat over a white button-up shirt with a green and blue striped tie.

Zara had on a dark gray jacket and styled her blonde hair in a short ponytail.

Her parents are Princess Anne, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s only daughter, and Mark Phillips.

Zara and her older brother Peter Phillips were not given HRH titles by their mother so that they could have a more normal childhood.

King Charles’ appearance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show marked his third engagement since resuming his royal duties earlier this week amidst his cancer diagnosis.

News of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis came to light in February after he underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate. There, doctors discovered “a separate issue of concern” that requires treatment.

Buckingham Palace later clarified that the cancer was not prostate cancer.

King Charles, who is currently receiving outpatient treatment, broke his silence on the shocking diagnosis on Feb. 11.

“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world,” he said in a statement.

King Charles most recently spoke about his health issues to fellow cancer patients during a visit to University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre on Tuesday.

“It’s always a bit of a shock, isn’t it, when they tell you?” King Charles said in regard to finding out about his diagnosis, per the Times of London.

He was also heard saying, “I’ve got to have my treatment this afternoon as well.”

On April 26, the palace confirmed that King Charles would resume his public duties despite having cancer.

“His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis,” the palace said in a brief statement.

The palace also confirmed that King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, will host the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a state dinner in June.
