He has also been accused of possessing a sawn-off shotgun without a permit and in circumstances of aggravation.

And police allege he was unlicensed to be carrying ammunition.

The police prosecutor noted Mr Kaserer had not been in trouble with the law before but opposed bail because of the “seriousness of the offence”.

His lawyer said Mr Kaserer’s mother would be able to go surety for bail and that he would be able to reside with her in Jurien Bay.

He also said his client would be open to random drug testing, agree not to consume drugs or apply for a passport, and admit himself into a rehabilitation unit.

Magistrate Evan Shackleton noted the prosecution’s view that it was an “extremely serious case”.

He granted Mr Kaserer bail with a $50,000 personal undertaking and a similar surety to be paid by his mother.

Part of his bail conditions include drug testing and reporting to police three times a week.

He was remanded to reappear in the Joondalup court on May 17.
